Seriously, this shit has to stop. How many times this year alone have we seen yet another 80’s movie turned into play to cash in on nostalgia. I suppose I would object if it wasn’t for the fact that everyone in these productions weren’t so fucking actor-ish. I’m all for colorblind casting, but having this guy as Mr. Miyagi is pretty fucking ridiculous…

… And I really don’t like to talk about too much personal personal stuff here, but I guess you can say that MK & I are “official.”

Plus this guy looks way too much like Billy Zane….

Translation by Jim Figurski and Takashi Matsuda, August 27, 2004
Source: Sponichi

… Check this out: a Karate Kid musical.

“I want to compete with America. I want to overwhelm the American Godzilla (which is a symbol of CG) with the Japanese technique of suitmation,”says Kitamura. In the movie, Godzilla is made from a suit, and Zilla is made from CG. “I?m putting in the movie what people all over the world want…Zilla. I want to reach the height of the series and return Godzilla back to being strong and cool again. There are times also when Godzilla behaves affectionately and humorously which I think will make Roland Emmerich laugh if he sees this movie,” Kitamura says with confidence. FINAL WARS opens December 4th.

Then a person showed me this, which is also pretty damn cool. Hey, it’s the guy from Appleseed!

… In video game news, the original PlayStation turns 10 today. Holy shit do I feel old. Plus, check out this killer screen shot from Lumines. Dear God does it look beautiful.

… So this week I stumbled across some new chiptune musicians. First is YMCK. And by digging around their site, I came across Blasterhead, Consumers Studios, Consumers Studios, Covox, MIDR2 (who has a great cover of the main tune in the Goonies game), and the very awesome GOTO80.

The production staff makes sure the rights to use Godzilla are exclusive to Toho. In America there are imitation products on the market that have the name”Zilla.”Producer Tomiyama has the ability to get rid of these products if he chooses to. Tomiyama thinks that the American Godzilla is a representation of these imitation products therefore he named the American Godzilla in FINAL WARS simply “Zilla”. The significance of this perfectly suits this kaiju who has had the word “God” taken out from the name “Godzilla”.

Actually, I’m sorta of a fan of the guy, but the world only needs one Billy Zane.

When Zilla appears in Sydney, humanity?s last hope is a revived Godzilla who is beneath the ice in Antarctica to do battle with it. The details of the battle are under wraps, but the Sydney street will be decimated. Kitamura, who studied film direction in Australia, said it would be an honor to have Godzilla destroy his second home.

… Remember that really cool commercial for the transforming car that I linked to a whiles back? Well here’s an article about it. And would you believe that everything was computer generated? Those environments look insane.

So for most of this past week, I’ve had to work 13 hour days since we’re short one staff member at SVA. Which means that I’ve mostly been sitting around surfing the web for hours and hours. It’s not healthy to say the least, hence why, even though my bronchitis is gone, I still can’t get rid of my nasty cough. But thankfully, there’s been tons of shit to dig through…

For the 50th anniversary of the Godzilla series, in the movie finale FINAL WARS, the American Godzilla will be making an appearance. The X-seijin who plan on conquering the earth, create and release a murderous kaiju called Zilla in Sydney, Australia. An all-out battle unfolds between Zilla and Godzilla. In this dream battle between the Japanese and American Godzilla, Kitamura said with confidence, “I wanted to do something that nobody would expect.”

Even in Japan, Godzilla (98? American version) was a hit, taking in around 30 million dollars. However, there was a controversy about the design regarding the pros and cons of it. Director Kitamura is one of the critics too, and says he can watch and enjoy the American Godzilla if he keeps in mind that this is not the real Godzilla. In order to have the Japanese Godzilla protect his own namesake, the American Godzilla was selected to do battle with him.

… Everyone, meet my new hero. Or is it maybe this guy? Sorry, but it’s definietely this guy:

… As for the rest of the week, nothing too exciting to report. Last night, I taught Kitty how to do soul brother handshakes (she’s originally from the far east). Today, there was a pretty interesting conversation with my boss and coworkers regarding people who masturbate in public, which lead into a conversation into mole people. On, and I did see some women in bikinis toss around a beach ball on 23rd Street the other day.

… Also this week,Chanel Handbags, my friend (and future collaborator) Barry has a new book that just came out this week. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to be a super-hero, but doesn’t know how.

But it gets better! Apparently, uber design-smith Kyle Cooper is working on the movie’s credits. Plus, there’s rumors that Hideo Kojima might be contributing in some unspecified manner. Kojima, as you all know, is the man behind Metal Gear Solid. You might all recall that it was Kitamura who re-directed the cinematics in Twin Snakes (too bad that game didn’t turn out so hot).

The American Godzilla has a gigantic head, a long tail that makes you think of a lizard and thin limbs. After 6 years since its debut, it?s been revived. Now he challenges the Japanese Godzilla for the title of “Godzilla”.

… I know this must be super old news, but I just found out that the newest Godzilla flick, Godzilla Final Wars (which is basically another Destroy All Monsters, which has him fighting virtually every other big rubber monster out there) which opens up tomorrow, is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura! This could be pretty fucking awesome. Granted, his films are all style and no substance, but replace the actors with rubber monsters and I don’t think anyone will really notice. As someone on the GAF put it best, “I hope there’s a scene where the camera rotates around Godzilla and another character for a minute like in his other movies. That NEVER gets old!”

Though for most people, the big draw will be seeing the original Godzilla face off against the American version, which can be best described as a CGI abortion on the big screen. In the movie he’ll be called “Zilla.” Here’s some more info taken from a translated article from a few months back:

Along the way are these full-page spreads that are simply amazing…

There’s also a list of the most influential game makers out there today, and its rather surprising…

There’s all kinds of articles and articles with assorted folks involved in the game industry, as well as some outsiders I think. One piece deals with the creative process, while another goes into places to learn the craft…

Yes, I know the pics are kinda crappy; everytime I get ready to take pics, I lose sunlight in my apartment! When things get brighter, I’ll be sure to replace them. Anyhow, it’s difficult to pin down what the focus of the magazine is supposed to be. I believe its about entertainment in general, with music and book reviews, along with interviews with I’m assuming important people that appear to be artisans, plus a section on fashion and style, naturally. This particular issues is all about video games, as it’s somewhat apparent, and hence the reason why I picked it up in the first place. And as is the case with virtually every single Japanese print publication, the layout and pure scope of everything is mesmerizing…

In addition to Studio Voice, I picked up a toy and model kit magazine; I can’t afford all the cool toys that come from Japan, let alone have the space, so collecting magazines that feature pictures of them is a pretty decent closest thing. Plus, it contained a supplemental mini-mag that appears to be a hit list of all the girls that has appeared the various Sentai (Power Rangers) shows over the years. And in the grocery store part proper, nabbed this in the candy section…

First off, the story makes zero sense. Perhaps someday someone will eventually translate the manual and shed some light, but for the time being I have no idea what the hell is going on. For those who don’t know, part 1-4 was about this war between a peaceful and presumably human race versus some aggressive alien force that presumably is very scary and not very human-like. Pretty standard plot for shumps in general, from Gradius to R-Type. Part 5 is where things actually become interesting because that’s when Earth got involved; at the end of part 4, your ship (the Rynex) is destroyed in the midst of the final big bang and is discovered by humans from Earth many light years down the road, who then take it back home and attempt to study the thing. When that doesn’t work, a supercomputer is built to analyze all the wacky alien technology, which surprise, becomes the basis for all human technology from that point on. Naturally, this supercomputer that ends up running everything eventually goes berserk, I believe after it finally discovers the true story behind the creators of Rynex, which again were the good guys from before, thought it’s hinted as being somewhat hideous, hence blowing a fuse (but that potentially intriguing angle is never explored unfortunately). Cue the small band of crazies that attempt to take the system down with just a few lone ships. Well, far as I can tell, everything… the original alien race, their enemies, and Earth… are all thrown into the mix in part 6 with no rhyme or reason, and not even in an interesting manner. Note: there appears to be no story in Broken Sword, the doujin game that was created in the wake of the original part 6 for the Dreamcast, which was cancelled after the parent company, TechnoSoft, got purchased by a pachinko company. More on that later.

EDIT: The only thing I’m actually worried about is more funkiness when it comes to counting the votes, but I’ve also heard more than one person say that such a move will cause rioting in the streets. Not to say that it wouldn’t be valid… it TOTALLY would, but given how the people in this country has had more than enough reasons to take to the streets with pitchforks in the past few years, with Katrina being the prime reason, I’m not holding my breath (besides, those that want anarchy the most generally have no idea what that even means and wouldn’t last more than ten minutes in such a climate). Point being: people love talking out of their asses and are generally pretty lazy, which brings me back to my earlier points.

Thank God Konami’s other mobile effort that I’m currently going through, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, is FAR better. But I’ve only scratched the surface and still wanted to pass along a review, since I keep saying I’m going to, plus that pile is only going to grow with the holiday season coming up. With that in mind…

Again, it’s hardly the reinvention of the genre, nor a new high-water mark that I know some were expecting. And Cave fans (this means you Dave Mauro) need not apply. Yet, there’s just enough to appeal to Thunder Force fans, so if you happen to be one of those, go ahead and give it a try!

Japanophiles, prepare to cringe! They are, in order:

Long short, don’t even bother unless you’re a Thunder Force diehard. Then again, the only people who are still reading this falls in such a category, so the good news is… It’s better than Broken Sword! Which is not saying much, I know. Unfortunately, it’s nothing worth getting excited for either. Thunder Force 6 sure ain’t no Thunder Force 4 (or Lighting Force for you old school Genesis gamers out there who might be unaware of its linage), that’s for damn sure.

So on Sunday, Katie and I went out to Jersey for our bi-montly fix of Mitsuwa, this super wonderful Japanese supermarket that also houses a super wonderful Japanese cafeteria, gift store, and book store, which some of you folks might recall be heaping praise upon. Anyhow, that’s where I got this…

- Rockstar Games
- Ubisoft
- Grasshopper Manufacture
- 2K Boston
- Kojima Productions
- Bethesda Softworks
- Square Enix
- Platinum Games
- Electronic Arts
- Activision
- Sony Computer Entertainment America
- Capcom
- Blizzard Entertainment
- and Cave

The bottom-line is that people love to get all excited about stuff and load on the hyperbole, and when things finally get started, they move on; I can’t tell you how many times I’ve overheard “Today this is probably the most important day in American history!” Just as they did last election day, or the one before it. Katie’s reaction though says it best: “Fuck you, july 4th 1776!!!” Anyhow, it?s one thing to want change, it?s an entirely different thing to be serious about it, and the jury is still out on that last one; I applaud Obama for exciting and energizing the voting public to a degree that no one since Bill Clinton has since 1992 (though that?s not say that he?s anywhere on the same level as Bill, sorry… and like so many others, if he was up for re-election, I’d vote for that guy again IN A HEARTBEAT), it?s again up to us to actually make it happen.

Video Game: The Last Creative Frontier

If you voted, then congratulations. For the record, I have absolutely no problems with people exercising their rights, I’m just perturbed how certain folks (well, the vast majority of them) do so without knowing what the issues really are, and also have unrealistic expectations. But then again, that’s what politics is all about isn’t it? Being misinformed and absorbing empty promises. Once again, I guess I just find it so incredibly funny how many of my peers are acting the way I used to, which is running around like a chicken with its head cut off, screaming at everyone to vote or otherwise they can’t complain. But now, in 2008, my song is very different. I also want to believe that even when I was on my high political horse, I wasn’t at least completely annoying about it. Then again, stuff like Twitter wasn’t around back in 2000 and 2004.

Time to wrap it up, got a busy day ahead of me with lots of stuff to do. Except for that one thing, if you know what I mean. Man, I’m so happy that today is finally here… happy to finally get IT over with. At least we’ll finally see who will be our new Commander in Chief: the candidate of backwater, God fearing hillbillies, or the candidate of hipster, blogging douchebags. As previously stated, I can’t vote due to a screw up that still has me listed me as a Brooklyn resident, but even if I could, the Presidential race would be the last thing on my mind. Maybe because of stuff like this…. Or simply knowing how the electoral college works. And yes, for the hundredth time, I’m speaking as a New Yorker whose vote for the President, in the end, kinda doesn’t matter. Sorry, but it’s true! I’m not even going to bother going into the importance of, instead, being vocal when it comes to local politics… because most people couldn’t be bothered, at least around here. Thankfully such apathy doesn’t seem as persistent with my buds in California, but its still a problem across this nation, not just in the Big Apple.

Review: Thunder Force VI (PS2)

Yes, I Know What Day It Is

The audio is easily the weakest part of the whole thing. Once again, part 6 was originally planned for the Dreamcast, but that got axed,Chanel Handbags, and I believe a few folks from Techno Soft also lost their jobs due to the merger. Some time after it was believed dead and buried, the soundtrack, which I guess was completed before anything else, was released, featuring the same awesome, heavy metal music that the series is known for, by the same guy responsible for the amazing Genesis and Saturn scores. Some time later, a doujin game that would serve to be a spiritual part 6 was produced, featuring various folks that worked on the series proper, including the same front end designer from 5 (and it really showed), as well the composer. This led to yet another part 6 soundtrack. Once the wheels began spinning for the real thing, guess who didn’t get called back? Apparently, TechnoSoft was not at all happy that their sound dude wasted his efforts on a crappy fan game. And Broken Swords was indeed crap; everything, from the in-game graphics to the enemy patterns just screamed lazy and incompetent. So instead, the producer (who from what I understand, was the guy who produced part 3, and perhaps no relation to 4 or 5) decided to bring together numerous video game musicians from the world of shumps, including the talents behind Gradius 2, Ray Force, Raiden, and even Segagaga (which has a tribute to Thunder Force at the very end). Yet for some reason, everything is just flat and lifeless. Worst of all is the reprise for the encounter against Rynex; doesn’t get the blood pumping at all. Also not helping one bit is the inane difficulty level. At its default, the game’s a complete cake-walk; the ship you start out with has all weapons immediately available. There’s also super attacks you can unleash, and it’s fairly easy to refill them throughout; most bosses, if you know where to hit them, and again it’s not very hard at all, can be taken out with just one of such shots. I’m not playing it at maniac setting, which is finally providing a challenge. Also, each time you complete the game, a new ship is available; thus far I’ve unlocked two different Rynex variants. They at least require you to collect weapons that you lose if you die using one. Still, the game is pretty liberal with continues, and if you die, you can pick up right where you left off, which I don’t think was allowed in 4 and 5.

Now, on the way to Mitsuwa, I brought along the Verizon handset that Konami’s PR folks had provided me, as to play the new Silent Hill Mobile. My original plan was to have a review ready by Halloween, but aside from things getting all crazy in general (and as usual), I also had a great deal of difficulty playing the damn thing. And once again, I found myself stuck very early on in the game, as did Katie who tried to give it a crack. So with that in mind, there is simply no way I can properly review the game, since its either so broken or I’m so dumb (along with Katie apparently) that one cannot get past the first puzzle. Not helping was the device itself… the buttons literally made my hands cramp up, but then again, Verizon always has the worst looking and feeling phones out of anyone.

There’s also a list of do not miss games, which includes some reasonable titles, such as Rez HD, Coloris, Mother 3, along with another one that has stuff like Shellshock: NAM ‘67 and Legion: The Legend of Excaslibur. No idea what that’s about.

First off…

The format of the game has remained virtually unchanged; you pick the order of the first few levels, hit a dramatic mid-point, then proceed to the grand finale. There’s one stage that’s vaguely R-Type-ish… you’re attacking on huge ship from all different angles, go up, over, under, and over; it’s easily the best part of the entire game, mostly because your viewpoint is constantly shifting. It might also be worth noting that the gigantic craft you’re picking away at appears to be based upon the final boss in part 4. Actually, several other bosses from both parts 4 and 5 also make their return, including… I hate to spoil the fun, but yes, Rynex, aka the Original Vasteel. Even your ship from part 5, the Gauntlet/Vambrace, is a boss. Though for some reason, they’re all much bigger than you. Speaking of, graphics are on par with how Thunder Force 5 compared with other Saturn games at the time. Meaning it’s completely serviceable, yet severely lackluster. Like 5, the backgrounds are kinda “eh”, but some decent coloring to make one not mind too much. At least the quality of the polygons are far better this time around, whereas part 5’s just made you cringe and wish that they went with sprites. Most enemies look good enough, with the exception of the final boss, which is quite seriously one of the worst, goofiest final foes in a VERY long time. I almost want to say that it’s some kind of homage to the past, in which big bosses from shumps, circa the early 90s were all silly and ridiculous. I still hated it. And it’s hardly as compelling as the end games from 4 and 5.

Most folks I know are casting their ballots for Obama, but us NYCers sometimes forget that the rest of the country is not as progressive (that’s not to say everyone that chooses McCain has done so because of race, but there’s quite a few of them). While there’s still a very good chance that we might get President McCain (who once again well be replaced by President Palin after McCain’s ticker explodes, and then we’re all really fucked), I now believe that in the end it actually be President Obama (I don’t even want to think of the possible scenario in which he’s assassinated by some white supremacist crazy, cuz then it?s President Biden, and holy shit are we ever screwed…. once more, I’m supremely irritated that no one talks about all the stupid crap he’s behind, lesser of two stupid evils or not). Though I’d be lying if I didn?t admit to secretly wanting McCain to win, just because he?s been built up like the second coming Christ, and Jesus has that been annoying (plus, I’m a contrarian… can’t help it). Yet a bigger part of me wants Obama, just so I can go “I told you so” when he proves to be just another politician at the end of the day. But seriously, many are choosing Obama simply because of his promise of change, yet one must wonder if people really know what that means ultimately. For those wanting things to be different, putting one’s faith into just one person (yet again) and hoping that everything will all of sudden be magically better is, quite simply, utter foolishness. And while most who read that statement will go “that’s bullshit, I’m not like that”, I must once again refer to the aforementioned apathy towards local politics as one example of the contrary. Also for the record: I did in fact once write a letter to my senator about something I was bothered by, and while I never got a response, at least I did it.

- Another hidden gem courtesy of SB: a long play vid of an old Irem coin-op called Vigilante.
I actually got my hands on a ton of stuff recently, including Lost in Blue 2, which MK has been playing mostly, though at a certain point she grew frustrated and went back to Chulip. I also received Metal Slug Anthology for the PSP, and its pretty dandy thus far, though I’ve only been playing X and 3… still haven’t checked out 6, which I hear is “not that bad”, at least compared to the dogs that were 4 and 5. Finally started playing Tokobot, and I’ve enjoyed it thus far…. And due to some mix-up, Disney accidentally sent me Lumines Plus for the PS2 instead of Lumines 2 for the PSP. Gotta say, its just kinda weird to play part 1 and not have Shake Ya Body pop up when it supposed. I dare say its just plain wrong.

Other highlights from the past few days include yet another book party at Rocketship and entertaining my out of friends Steve and Suzanne, both of whom I’ve known since high school. It was just fun seeing them validate all the batshit insane stuff that I’ve mentioned to MK about growing up in Washington. “Yes there is an insane asylum just a few blocks away from where we lived… and yes, there really was a prison island that went kaput, with all the child molesters taking refugee in our town… and yes, we remember Crutch.”

I even missed Wrestlemania! I’m no where near the the wrestling fan I used to be, but I always at least try to catch the biggest show of the year, or the very least have a copy not to long after its done. I didn’t even know it went down till someone mentioned it earlier this afternoon. From what I hear, it really sucked, with the best match being the one with Undertaker, which I have to admit, is nice to hear since I was such a big fan of his as a kid (I still have fond memories of the the whole Undertaker vs. Undertaker match, along all the build up, with Leslie Nielsen). I was also shocked to hear that Vince McMahon lost the hair vs. hiar challenge against Donald Trump. Almost no one thought Trump had a chance of loosing. No one except for me that is. According to my friend Marc at the Soap Opera Weekly, Trump knows that his haircut is atrocious, but knows that the minute he changes it, there will be all this unwanted attention. So I figured, him losing his hair (along with an appropriate kick-back) would give him the perfect chance to ease into a new style without the abruptness.

… Also, if I had one this past weekend, I would have been able to take a snapshot of the monkey puppet that I picked up for MK’s mom, which is going to be an Easter’s present. I believe I’ve mentioned previously how she’s somewhat of a budding ventriloquist; a whiles back I got a stuffed panda for MK and apparently all her mom does is walk around with it and make it talk. So now she’s getting something with a movable mouth.

I also recently discovered that in Japan, they have this line in which the Transformers get “powered-up” when kissed by human girls. This series, which includes a toy-line and a radio show, is called Kiss Players, and apparently, “Although this plotline may seem like a shift in demographics to little girls, it is said that this line was aimed at at a much older, (creepy) adult male audience. Indeed, the toys bear an “ages 15 and up” warning, and the subject matter of the accompanying manga is far from child-friendly.”.

BTW, I finally updated my GSW column this past weekend.

- … and because its Passover. I love seeing all the wacky graphics that Japanese television has, especially when its in Hebrew.

- Yet another one from Japan, a live action version of Love and Berry (for more info on Sega’s hit game series for girls, go here). Its basically some word game and the winner gets to choose which article of clothing that she wants to exchange with the loser. From what I’ve been told, one’s a bikini model and the other is a comic whose apparent gimmick is that she’s dirty and not very lady-like (such as her inability to properly shave her legs). The only reason why I’m linking to the vid will be clearly evident in the first three seconds.

I guess I should maybe mention that two new trailers for the new live-action Transformers flick recently went live. And on the same page, you can check out what the Optimus and Bumblebee toys will look like, which I’m assuming is how they’ll appear in the film. And Jesus, Bumblebee keeps looking more and more stupid. For a while his face was kinda looking like Goldbug’s, but now I have no idea what to think.

YouTube Theater: Another Mostly WACKY JAPPY Edition

Which reminds me, I REALLY have to get my ass in gear and get a passport for my trip in a few weeks.

- Super Mario Bros. 1-1 done entirely in Line Rider.

- Wacky Gears of War viral video from Japan number one, Wacky Gears of War viral video from Japan number two, Wacky Gears of War viral video from Japan number three, and Wacky Gears of War viral video from Japan Wacky Gears of War viral video from Japan number four. Hey, you gotta give Microsoft credit for at least trying. And we all know that cute Japanese girls do = $$$.

- Time for some random Beatmania superplay vid.

- … another one from Japan, also featuring wacky costumes, but this time its a parody of those Super Sentai (Power Ranger) shows! Unfortunately its not dubbed, though its still worth watching at least the first minute or so for the ass rape and the outfits. And I guess its a re-accuring sketch because here’s one more.

- Apparently in Madden 92 for the Genesis, there was this bug where the ambulance that comes on the field to pick up injured players would also mow down everyone else.

- … an absolutely amazing Stevie Wonder drum solo clip!

- As for what’s playing, I finally got my hands on Disney’s Meteos Magic. And what I’ve been hearing is actually correct: its actually a pretty damn awesome game, and the change to the gameplay that many thought would wreck the game (including myself) actually works on quite well! I almost want to say that it might be a tiny bit better than the original! Though I want to hold final judgment till I’ve spent more time with it. Maybe I’ll do a full-on “review” or something, I dunno. Though I will say that I don’t have a problem with holding the DS that you’re apparently supposed to, like I believe Dave had.

GSW was also the first place where I saw this posted: some bizarro comic that a game testing company recently produced, as a means of recruitment I believe, that features a pair of testers from the future, who happens to be hot babes wearing tight spandex. But anyway…

- Here&#8217,Chanel Handbags;s some dude that’s selling every video game he has. Why? Because of love.

Back to the movies, Grindhouse is finally coming out this week, and I’m definitely gonna check it out, despite what I’ve already been told.

- … Rosie O’ Donnell + (a naked) John Ritter!

- I’ve also seen the new screenshots from NiGHTS 2, and for those who might have missed them, I also passed them along previously here. Now, as stated previously, I really haven’t had much of a chance to look around, so I’ve mostly been sticking to Select Button, and maybe they echo the opinions of everyone else, or maybe not, but they’ve got this really ridiculous thread where everyone is complaining about the redesign. But other than having a little added color in his eyes and having a slightly puffier shirt, I for one cannot tell the fucking difference. In fact, everyone keeps going on how “creepy” he now looks. Hey people, NIGHTS HAS ALWAYS LOOKED CREEPY!!!

- … and one last cat vid; this one’s short and furious.

And for those who don’t dig video game vids, we have…

- … quite possibly the worst Nickelodeon Guts player EVER.

Anyway, but yeah, just been busy with work, work, work. I was actually up till 6:30 this past morning finishing up on one project, and the plan was to sleep till 4 in the afternoon, but the creepy Russians that my roommate Stephy hired to re-build the deck made too much of a ruckus to make that possible. So now my brain is kinda shot, yet I still have lots more to do, like finishing up on my piece for the latest 1UP-Zine….

Pretty much the only April Fool’s gag that I did catch, and was even suckered by, was this news item about copies of Tron being confiscated by Homeland Security, but in my defense, it was written two days before the 1st.

What was I talking about again?

Oh, and I’ve decided to finally shelve Polarium Advance for a while. I’ve been playing the game pretty much at least once a day since I first got it, which was January 8th according to the game. I’m up to May 15th puzzle, with just two or three that’s been unsolved along the way. Maybe I’ll go back on May the 15th. So now I’m rediscovering both Astro Boy and Super Mario Advance (Super Mario Bros 2) via the Game Boy Micro.

Melissa And Optimus, Sitting In A Tree…

There was a chiptune show that went down this Saturday night, but I’ve been so saddled with work that I had to pass. Though to blow off some steam from said heavy workload, I wanted to finally throw the much talked about shitty movie night, plus plays some Def Jam Icon for the 360, but then I realized that both Jeremiah and Josh are off in Japan for Chipstock.

- … Star Wars + politics! Thanks to K Thor for the head’s up on that one.

Hey, its been a week already!

- As pointed out over at SB: the minus world in SMB, but on the Famicom Disk System, which is actually quite different. My only question is both the minus world in this game and the original Famicom/NES edition is intentional or not.

- … but enough cats; how about a dog and monkey doing push-ups?

Oh Japan… Anyway, further investigation has unearthed this:

- Hey look, Pac Man strategies.

On a related note, I too have heard Sega’s recent mission objective to “reinvent Sonic”.

Though, meanwhile in America….

Instead of reading about video games, I’ve actually been spending a lot of time watching them on YouTube as of late (partly due to my aforementioned upcoming 1Up Zine story), with recent favorites being…

- Speaking of Select Button, despite the place getting stranger and stranger by the day (and that’s putting it nicely… such all the “why won’t girls talk to me?” topics that have popped up as of late, one of which I tried giving advice… btw guys, in case you didn’t know, and I hate to say this, but being a 25 year old virgin hardly impresses women and is actually a major turn off for most), there’s still some interesting finds to be had. One just has to really dig for them. Case in point, just yesterday someone pointed out the deconstructulator, which is basically a modified NES emulator that shows how sprites and sprite memory is accessed and handled while a game is played. Neat!

- … even more Star Wars; despite the fact that Episode 3 made Darth Vader a raging pussy, at least YouTube is able to do some damage control. That one’s from Ed btw, who might be the biggest Star Wars nut that I personally know of, or at least the one that hasn’t totally walked away from the movies.

… I’d been able to take a picture of the ultra awesome Ultraman gashapon I treated myself to the other day. Basically, there’s a series in which he’s dressed as a lowly Japanese businessman and each figure depicts him at a certain time of the day. You have him getting up for work, stressing out at the office, playing pachinko well past his lunch hour, sheepishly serving sake to his boss at some work related dinner, and the best of one all, the one I really wanted and am so glad I got, Ultraman late at night, falling asleep on the train, with his head drooping onto the shoulder of a fellow late night commuter, who happens to be one a bad-guy, also in business attire.

- With so much going on, I managed to totally miss out on all the April 1st hijinks. If there was some mind-blowingly awesome/hilarious/retarded fake game-related news going around, I never caught wind of it. I even missed this year’s Irem April Fool’s joke, which are usually pretty awesome; the link for it was found here, along with several others by various game companies, most of which has been taken down, and those that are still up, I really don’t get. Though I did just find out from Joe that the kid who was doing a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake in 2D and whom I had heard recently passed away actually faked his death to avoid all the constant “Is it done yet?” questions.

- … some fan-dubbed live-action Sailor Moon!

- … anyone who’s does any message board surfing had undoubtedly seen the picture of some Japanese girl who shoves a cant’s entire head in her mouth. Well here’s the girl’s music video, and it even includes her cat swallowing hijinks, and a bit more. She only does it once, but afterwards, you can’t help but be gripped by the possibility (or fear) of it maybe happening again. And no, I have no idea why I eat this shit up.

I Must Be Blind

- I also want this tie.

- Want a sneak peak at what might be the next big, hit indie game? Take a look at Balding’s Quest, and while its still in the midst of production, you can at least check out how its coming along here. At the very least, it looks hella cool…

… Plus I could have taken a pic of the old lady in Chinatown that somehow managed to get her hand stuck in one of the new R2 D2 mailboxes, and her desperately trying to escape (a cop was on-hand to lend a hand, so I didn’t really need to do anything).

- So Guitar Hero 2 for the Xbox 360 is going to have a wa-wa pedal? Sweet.

If I Only Had A Camera

- And as for what’s going on, hell if I know. Again, been so busy that I just haven’t been able to keep track. Though I do know about the trailer to Grand Theft Auto 4, and even wrote about it a bit at the forum when it first hit. Basically, while I do kinda dig the New York feel, and am glad that they’re going with something a bit different, in regards to using a poor working immigrant as the protagonist and not some idiotic, and tired, wiseguy stereotype, I still don’t have much interest of faith for a number of reasons. Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the guy as GSW that would rather see another Uniracer instead of another GTA.

- And footage of Zelda 1 re-done for the SNES for the satellite game service for the Super Famicon that a few folks out there might already know about. This vid is actually from an old VHS tape, and its the second part of two, but I’m not link to that since its mostly just talk and not much else. At least here we see the game in action, though there’s still plenty of talking, which means some amount of fast-forwarding. But still, check out the amazing music… if its indeed coming from the game, then WOW,

Surrender – you have to surrender to the rhythm, to groove of the band – the sum of the total.

Discipline – you can’t just play guitar once in a while, you need to have the mental discipline to do it daily.

Work is essential to achieve growth in any field – practicing guitar strengthens your fingers, but more importantly creates new neural pathways in your brain.

Everything I know I learned from playing the guitar.

The journalist suggested that cherry juice was the favorite juice-drink of the Turkish people. The band, crew and my friends then proceeded to drink cherry juice with vodka until the bar ran out of vodka… And, in case you are wondering, cherry juice gives you a bigger headache than orange juice – because it is sweeter, I reckon.

Turkish Night: We were in Istanbul for the first time. The band had flown in for a private party performance. In addition, one friend of mine had arrived from Cologne, Germany, to hang out with us. Another, who had become a TV journalist stationed in the capital of Turkey, had come to Istanbul as well. We viewed the amazing sites in Istanbul, I recorded a call at 4am in the morning (you can hear it on the CD Leaning into the Night),Chanel Handbags, we played at the private party, and on the last evening we found ourselves at the hotel bar of the Hotel Kempinski, the Ciragan Palace.

Two new computer programs at Amesbury High School didnt drain a dime from the school budget but the payoff is limitless.

Thanks to private and state funding, AHS students now use Plato Learning,Cartier Handbags, a remedial math program for tenth-graders,gucci replica bags, and AHS teachers use Moodle to create online learning opportunities for their classes.

Last May,Replica Chanel, the Amesbury Educational Foundation, Inc., (AEFI) provided $4,000 in seed money to get Plato Learning up and running at AHS. Since the total cost of the program was $30,000,Chanel Handbags, Director of Educational Technology Cindy Yetman sought state remediation and technology grant money and received another $11,000. Then she hooked up with JFY Networks, which provided the matching $15,000 as well as training and ongoing support.
